William Darity: 'Dramatic Social Change Requires Imagination' (2016)
Economist William "Sandy" Darity PhD '78 earned his doctorate in Economics (Course 14) from MIT in 1978 and Bachelor of Arts from Brown University in 1974. He is currently the Samuel DuBois Cook Professor of Public Policy in the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University.
From the racial wealth gap to reparations for Black Americans, Prof. Darity is tackling important issues in society:
What I hope we are accomplishing at Sanford is making what many people might view as impossible, possible...If it was 1810 in the U.S..there might be people who would say "there's no point in fighting against slavery because you will never get rid of it." If you don't have folks who think about in changing the world in dramatic ways, then the world will not change in dramatic ways.
