In spring of 2020, social-media trends like the "Makeup Brush Challenge" AKA the #DontRushChallenge helped students across the world stay connected while in quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic. MIT cancelled classes as of March 15, 2020 and fully transitioned to online instruction for the remainder of the spring semester.
