Inaugural MIT Varsity Women’s Crew Team, 1974. Pictured from bow to stern are: Joan Pendleton ’76; Diane McKnight ’75, SM ’78, PhD ’79; Beverly Herbert ’75, MCP ’76; Julia Malakie ’77; Christine Tracey ’76; Christine (Plapp) Lofgren ’75, SM ’77; Anne McKinnon; Ingrid (Klass) Gorman ’76, SM ’79, and Roseanna Means ’76, ’77, the coxswain.

I was also active in women's crew--the first African American woman. (Greg Chisholm '73, SM '75, PhD '89 was on the men's crew team before I got involved, and he was very successful.) The women's crew team went from club status to varsity status in 1974.
