Frederick Davenport Drew '34 earned his Bachelor's in Biophysics from MIT in 1934 and his MS in Biophysics from Harvard University in 1939. Drew served as an instructor in physics and chemistry at Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina (1939-1948) and then pursued medicine.  In 1952, he earned his MD from Howard University.

After an internship and three years training as a resident in radiology at Freedmen's he remained as assistant radiologist in the Hospital and was appointed an instructor in radiology on the Howard medical faculty. At the time of his death he was professor of radiology [and chief of radio-therapy at Freedmen's Hospital in Washington, DC]. His entire career had been spent at Howard except for the year 1958-59, when he was staff radiologist at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Westhaven, Conn. and clinical instructor in radiology at Yale University.

Dr. Drew was a diplomate of the American Board of Radiology and a fellow of the American College of Radiology and the International College of Radiology. He was a member of the National Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the Medico-Chirurgical Society of the District of Columbia, the Medical Society of the District of Columbia and the Radiological Society of North America.
